Tips to protect your electronics and yourself

Simple tips for protecting your electronics and yourself:

*Be aware of SOCIAL ENGINEERING ATTACKS

 1) Phishing is a form of social engineering and a scam where attackers deceive people into revealing sensitive information or installing malware such as viruses, worms, adware, or ransomware. Phishing attacks have become increasingly sophisticated and often transparently mirror the site being targeted.

2) Smishing (SMS phishing) is a cyberattack using text messages to deceive victims into revealing personal information or downloading malware.

*Always use a high-quality surge protector on your TV, stereo, computer and other electronics.

Trusted Brands:

Tripp Lite (Eaton): Known for robust, industrial-grade components.

Belkin: Reliable, widely available, and good warranties.

Furman: Professional-grade linear filtering.

*Protect your identity! It is suggested that you keep your cell phones, and other devices when you are replacing or upgrading. Your mobile phone is part of your identity: the phone has long numbers embedded in the technology that associates it with you. This may include your name and your address. When phone companies tell you that they erase your phone when you turn it in - do they really? Where's the proof? It is a fact that some of these used devices are MINED for personal data (address, financial info, etc)

*Always keep your Wi-Fi network password protected. Try to use a long and lengthy password using special characters, numbers, letters.

*It is suggested that you enable a "Guest" network for visitors to use, on your home or business Wi-Fi network.

*Ensure that your computers, devices stay up to date with the latest security patches and updates. The internet is not safe, and there are entities trying to break into connected devices/machines.
